Installed Mass Production before the End of 2025! World's First Unmanned Manned EVTOL Solid-State Battery Flight Test Completed
On November 13, Yihang intelligence announced that the company had made a major technological breakthrough in high-energy solid-state batteries. On EH216-S, the battery successfully completed a single uninterrupted flight test, reaching 48 minutes 10 seconds, and the battery life increased by 60%-90%. This marks the world's first unmanned manned electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) to complete solid-state battery flight tests.
This high-performance solid state lithium battery using lithium metal as negative electrode and oxide ceramics as electrolyte, it has higher energy density and safety. Its energy density reaches 480Wh/kg and its stability is excellent. It not only greatly improves the flight performance by EH216-S, but also greatly expands the practical scenarios of low altitude applications in the future, especially in long-distance urban air traffic, low-altitude logistics transportation, high-rise fire emergency and other fields show broad application prospects.
Yihang intelligent program continues to cooperate with Xin Jie energy to further test and optimize the performance and stability of EH216-S, aiming to achieve the certification and installed mass production of solid-state batteries EH216-S by the end of 2025.
With the rapid development of low-altitude economy, it is estimated that the market size of China's low-altitude economy will reach 1.5 trillion yuan by 2025 and 3.5 trillion yuan by 2035. At present, most traditional lithium batteries cannot meet the requirements of aircrafts, and with the increasing demand in the field of low-altitude flight, the energy density of batteries will force battery factories to make technical improvements, eVTOL battery needs more energy density and charge and discharge than power batteries for new energy vehicles, and lightweight is also an important consideration direction. Under such circumstances, solid-state batteries may become the ideal choice for eVTOL. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other four departments clearly put forward in the implementation plan for innovative application of general aviation equipment to promote the mass production of 400Wh/kg Aviation Lithium battery products., and realize the application verification of 500Wh/kg Aviation Lithium battery products. These policy orientations and market forecasts further confirm the importance and development potential of solid-state battery technology in low-altitude economy.
